No, this isn’t some Cyndi Lauper remix for mothers… we really do just want to have some fun!
I often stress the importance of taking time to be that person you were before your tiny human came along. I always will, I consider it to be vital. However that doesn’t mean that even our downtime doesn’t come with it’s own preconceptions. You tell someone you have a child free night on your hands and the response is “oooooh what’re you gunna do? You should have a nice long bath, catch up with the housework and have a good sleep!”… I mean yeeaaaaaa, that’s probably it. But do I not deserve more than that?

My idea of fun is exactly that- my own!
On my child-free nights I should be able to do whatever I want. I should be able to go out and get so drunk I’m dancing on tables, or sit in my lounge under a blanket fort eating the biggest kebab you’ve ever seen. I can spend my child-free nights not doing a single load of laundry, not tidying a single thing- and I will still be a good Mum.
So long as my child is safe and being looked after, I should be able to spend my child-free time however I wish.

This week on Toraan’s friday night at Meemaw’s house, I stayed at a friend’s house. When The Man was at work chatting like they do about plans for the weekend, he said that he wasn’t sure what he wanted to do for his Millie and TinyHuman free night.
His colleagues questioned where I’d taken TinyHuman too. Confused by the concept that we could possibly be separate. But we were!
I spent my weekend being me!
I spent my weekend with friends, where I wasn’t a parent who’s most frequent conversation is about the colour and consistency of the contents in the last nappy. I was Millie, who laughed and joked with her friends, ate pancakes and talked weddings. It was wonderful, I enjoyed myself so much. The Man had a nice quiet night. TinyHuman had one of his much loved sleepovers at Meemaw’s.
I had an awesome weekend, then I returned home, and cuddled with my boys. Perfection.
