From stay at home Mums, to working Mums, to Mother Earth Mums, Mums who are grandmothers, single Dads who also play Mum roles, messy bun Mums. There’s many different types of Mother. All of whom deserve to be celebrated, every day of the year.
Mother’s Day comes round once a year and is the perfect opportunity to appreciate the Mums in our lives. This year is my first Mother’s Day, and my own Mum’s first as a Meemaw as well as being the first Mother’s Day without our Nanny. This year’s Mother’s Day is a special one.

My own Mum is the most wonderful person in my life. A woman who has taught me so much about life and how to be the best person I am able to be.
The word “Mum” can have a different meaning for everyone. For some Mum is not the woman that birthed you, but one that has welcomed you with open arms and shown you the love of a mother. For others Mum is not a fond and warm memory but one that brings heartache.
For me, Mum is a safe place. Wherever my Mum is, that’s where I feel safe, welcome, loved and supported. Nothing makes my day better than a Mum hug and a cup of tea. For me, Mum means best friend.
When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth.

As a woman who never wanted children, I didn’t think much of Mother’s Day. I always bought a card and struggled to find a present- always knowing that in reality my Mum deserved the world. I bought Mother’s Day cards for my single parent friends, knowing it was important to them but never really understanding why.
However as I have entered motherhood, I have a very different perspective of the day. Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, it’s just not enough. Anyone who has taken on the mammoth task of raising a tiny human deserves the world.
It’s no easy feat having a tiny human, they say it’s as though your heart is walking around outside of your chest- they’re right. My heart belongs to my TinyHuman and he carries it around in his tiny fingers.
So, on this Mother’s Day I want you to think of all the Mums. All of those women with their hearts running around outside of their chests, those who struggle, those who find parenting a breeze, those who love like no other. On this Mother’s Day we will celebrate them all. We will celebrate them the day after Mother’s Day, and the day after that, and all the days that follow.
