Today on International Women’s Day it feels important to celebrate the amazing women in our lives.
International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organization specific.
I take today to celebrate the wonderful women in OurVillage. Without whom I would not be the woman that I am today, they have shaped my life in ways that they will never know. I am extremely honoured to know them.
Mum
The entirety of my young adult life I was bombarded with the phrase “oh god, aren’t you like your Mum!”. There was never any denying it, in every way it was true… my voice, my face, my mannerisms, the way I talk, the way I walk, everything!
I always hated it when I was younger, what teen do you know who wants to be compared to their Mum? Not me.
However with age, I have realised that I was being given the highest of compliments. If I was considered to be anything like my Mum then I was doing something right.
My respect for her has grown over the years in many different ways. As I entered adulthood, I respected her more generally as an adult. When we joined the same company, I respected her as a professional (honestly, I’ve never had a better manager!).
Now that I am a mother, I couldn’t respect her more if I tried. I never realised how hard she worked to raise us to be the adults we are today, and watching her become TinyHuman’s Meemaw has been a privilege.
Rosie
Beautiful, strong and hilarious. It’s safe to say that TinyHuman’s Auntie Rosie might just be the biggest, most endearing idiot that I will ever have the pleasure of knowing. You’re never prepared for what is going to come out of her mouth, but you know it is going to make you laugh. You can’t help it, the girl is contagious. She lights the room up just by entering.

Rosie is the type of girl that you just envy, she is unapologetically herself. She is who she wants to be, she loves who she wants to love. The Queen of balance, she works hard and parties harder.
Aimee
The youngest of my sisters, and a freaking Amazon. Aimee is to be respectfully feared. Fierce and beautiful, she is a warrior. With her natural beauty, and her talent for hair and beauty, she always looks incredible. With a heart of gold, she’ll help anyone she can. You can always count on Aimee to be there if you need her.
TinyHuman is fortunate enough to have an Auntie who can teach him to bake, paint, and take no sh*t all at the same time. She can strike you down with just her words, using her venomous tongue to defend her own. You know you’re good with Aimee on your side, she’ll smite your enemies and look good doing it!
They say it takes a village to raise a child.. I firmly believe it to be true. I’m so fortunate to have a group of incredible women in my life generally, let alone part of OurVillage. As individuals we are strong, but as a village- we are a force to be reckoned with.
